East Islip recognizes spring championship teams and Unified sports at board meeting

The East Islip Union Free School District Board of Education recognized spring athletic achievements across several teams and honored Unified Sports participants at a recent meeting.
Coach Tusken and the Unified Basketball staff described student growth and community support for the program. “Our students have shown a tremendous amount of growth throughout our season. It's an honor to coach these young men, and I'm so proud of them every day,” Coach Tusken said during the recognition.
Coaches and school officials highlighted multiple team accomplishments: the varsity boys lacrosse team were Suffolk County champions; the varsity girls team won the Suffolk County and Long Island championships; the baseball team secured the county championship; the softball team won the county and Long Island titles; and the inaugural varsity girls flag football program finished with an 11–5 record and reached the postseason in its first year.
Speakers repeatedly noted cross-team support and community attendance at games. Coach Zumo, addressing the boys lacrosse recognition, said the program recorded a four-year varsity record of 64–20 and that 15 players earned individual awards this season. Coaches emphasized resilience, teamwork and community engagement as season hallmarks.
Several coaches and student-athletes came forward to accept recognition and thank parents, booster volunteers, and building operations staff for field maintenance. The superintendent and athletic leaders encouraged families and residents to attend future games and continue supporting district athletics.
