Board approves director of behavior supports title change with instruction to return with updated job description

The Clarke County board voted to approve a director‑level job description for behavior supports with conditions: the board asked administration to return in August with a revised description that clarifies the role’s scope and supervisory responsibilities.

Board members pressed administration for details on how the position would interact with existing behavior coordinators, behavior specialists and school‑level behavior interventionists. "When we're looking at this particular position, it's not a new, an added position as much as it is a revision to a position that currently exists," said Doctor Scott (district administration), explaining the change will align district‑wide behavioral supports under one director.

Board members sought clearer language on required experience with special education and positive behavior interventions. Doctor Gant and others asked whether the role would include caseload work, clinical supervision, or primarily program oversight and training. Doctor Scott said the incumbent has extensive experience and that the purpose of the change is to streamline management and training across departments. She said the director would continue specialized program oversight (including Lighthouse/GNETS related work) while coordinating training for behavior staff.

A substitute motion by board members directed administration to implement the position now but bring back a clarified and amended job description for board review in August; the motion passed 7‑2. The board emphasized that the approved budget contains funding for the role but that final hiring or any personnel appointment requires subsequent board approvals for a job description and the hire itself.
