Board adopts AP Precalculus and online Patterns Physics after instructional materials review

The Evergreen Public Schools Board of Directors on June 10 approved two curriculum adoptions: AP Precalculus instructional materials and an online curriculum called Patterns Physics.
Director Perkins moved to approve the AP Precalculus materials; Director Gronwold seconded. The board approved the adoption by voice vote. Later, Director Perkins moved to adopt Patterns Physics; Director Wilson seconded, and the board approved that motion as well.
During the reading and public hearing on textbook adoptions, a community member asked how the district publicizes adoption reviews and whether teachers and families who would be affected are given notice and opportunity to comment. Crystal Wolf, the district’s science curriculum specialist, described the process: teachers and department staff convene review committees, evaluate materials using a rubric, then forward a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee (IMC), which includes teachers, principals and community members. "We convene a committee of science teachers that then go through a selection of resources and evaluate it with a rubric," Wolf said. The IMC then verifies that the district followed protocol; community members may apply to serve on the IMC. Board members clarified that the board appoints two community members to the IMC and that some students also serve on the committee.
District staff described Patterns Physics as an open-courseware-style online resource and said they had held a workshop and public reading prior to the vote. No public objections were recorded during the meeting.

Staff encouraged community members to apply to the IMC if they wish to participate in future reviews; adopted materials will be reflected in course offerings for the 2025–26 year.
