SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Snohomish County Public Works asked the Public Infrastructure and Conservation Committee Tuesday to move a right-of-way motion for the South Machias–Dubuque Road intersection improvements to the county’s General Legislative Session for June 11.
Public Works staff said the county completed an evaluation of five alternatives in October 2024 and selected a single-lane roundabout with a southwest bypass lane for South Machias, which the department said will improve intersection safety and capacity. The chosen design also incorporates a new pedestrian crossing on Dubuque Road for the Centennial Trail.
The motion authorizes right-of-way plans, appraisal and appraisal-review contracts not to exceed $21,000 (subject to appropriation), and authorizes the county engineer to acquire uneconomic remnants or additional impacted property and to sign revisions to the right-of-way plan as needed. Construction is proposed for spring 2027 and staff said funding has been secured through a Highway Safety Improvement Program federal grant.
County staff requested that the committee move the motion to the June 11 GLS for consideration; the committee agreed to place the matter on consent pending any objection. No public hearing or additional discussion occurred at the committee meeting.
The staff presentation noted the design selection followed an October 2024 alternatives analysis; details about property takings, acquisition schedule, and right-of-way impacts will be part of the right-of-way plan and future agenda materials.
