Snohomish County Council proclaims June 19 as Juneteenth Independence Day

The Snohomish County Council on June 11 unanimously adopted Resolution 25-027 recognizing June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth Independence Day in Snohomish County.
The council moved and seconded the resolution after a brief public presentation period where Eric Howard, executive director of Sno Isle Libraries, described a county Juneteenth celebration planned for Sunday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Civic Campus and Library. “It is an honor to be with you today as you consider this joint resolution recognizing Juneteenth and our joint upcoming Juneteenth celebration,” Howard said.
Alicia Crank, an Edmonds resident and founder of Northwest Washington Civic Circle, thanked the county “for recognizing Juneteenth as the holiday that it is,” and noted partnerships with Sno Isle Libraries and Washington State University Everett for related programming. Will Johnson, a Mukilteo resident, also thanked the council for recognizing Juneteenth and reflected on growing public awareness of the day.
Councilmember O'Niering moved the resolution and Councilmember Mead seconded; the council voted aye with all five members present and the resolution passed unanimously. The council announced a short recess for photos following the votes.
