Council approves covenant allowing county use of former fire‑district land in Granite Falls

Council staff said the county acquired 1.78 acres from Fire District 17 in 2021 with proceeds from the sale of Sand Hill property and intends to use the site for material storage. The City of Granite Falls requires a covenant agreement ensuring the county will inspect and maintain stormwater facilities before the county obtains permits for improvements.
“Proposed agreement is typical and expected to protect against future maintenance liabilities and is consistent with federal and state requirements,” staff told the council. The motion was moved and seconded by Councilmember Nehring and Councilmember Mead and passed unanimously with all five members voting aye.
The agreement was described as a standard measure to protect the city from future maintenance liabilities; staff did not provide detailed maintenance schedules or cost estimates during the meeting.
