County transit staff told the Skamania County Board of Commissioners on June 10 that the department received a WSDOT grant award that will fund service requested for the next biennium and allow the addition of an afternoon route on the East side of the county.
Staff said the county received the full amount requested from the Washington State Department of Transportation and will add new stops and an afternoon run on a route that previously operated only in the morning. Increased service follows a reported ridership uptick and the posting of an 80% FTE driver position; one current driver moved into a full-time role and staff expect to fill the vacancy.
The transit director also said the department will review earlier route options and expand stops to better serve the East-side community. Staff reported other routine items โ such as senior farmers market vouchers โ and said they will review scheduling and route maps over the summer to implement the expanded service.
