Skamania County staff told the Board May 20 that a full bid package for the Events & Recreation building, developed with Wilson Architects, has been completed and advertised and that the county has begun accepting bids.
Staff said the design includes a low-cost second level used for storage — plywood floors and stairs without finish work — which provides additional storage without major added expense. A meeting with Wilson’s team yielded a detailed layout with fixtures, lighting and plumbing locations.
Interior finishing work is planned to limit daytime disruption. County staff said they intend to use an upcoming four-day weekend for most painting, two weekends for floor work plus three additional weekday days tied to those weekends, and the June 19 holiday weekend for remaining painting. Staff estimated the project should be completed in June, subject to funding.
Commissioners and staff noted that additional work beyond the current package is contingent on budget allocations that will be clarified after the state budget process and local budget allocations finalize around July 1. No new appropriation or contract award was approved during the meeting; the board will consider bids and budget details when available.
