Peabody council renews entertainment and outdoor-dining licenses for Azorean Brotherhood after licensing-board review

The City Council on June 12 renewed the 2025 entertainment and outdoor-dining licenses for the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, 20 Holly Street, following a licensing-board review prompted by a large disturbance at a November 2024 event.
Councilor McGinn explained that police responded to an incident at the Holy Ghost venue on Nov. 1, 2024, when a caller reported a fight involving hundreds of people; multiple arrests followed and the matter received media coverage. The licensing board later issued a suspension but held it in abeyance after the organization adopted new written policies and procedures agreed with city licensing, police and fire officials. Given that documented corrective action, the council put the entertainment license and the outdoor-dining renewals back on the agenda and approved both items.
Councilor McGinn said the licensing board’s action and the new documented policies were the basis for renewing the licenses; the council approved both renewals on voice votes without recorded opposition.
