Peabody council endorses statewide bills to require CPR/AED training for high-school students

The Peabody City Council voted to go on record in support of multiple Massachusetts legislative proposals to require cardiopulmonary-resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training for high school students.
Councilor Welton, chair of the ad hoc education committee, presented a resolution noting heart disease as the leading cause of death and citing American Heart Association data on the life-saving impact of bystander CPR. The resolution listed five bills in the Legislature (S.447, S.456, H.556, H.572 and H.750) that would require or expand CPR/AED instruction, and ordered that the city clerk forward a copy of the council’s support to the Peabody State House delegation. The roll-call vote recorded was 8–0 in favor.
