The Onalaska Common Council voted on June 10 to go into closed session to discuss tentative contract negotiations with the Onalaska Professional Police Association (OPPA) and the Supervisory Officers’ Relation Division.
The mayor read the statutory authority on the record, citing section 19.851 e of the Wisconsin statutes, and said the council met with OPPA and “were able to come to a somewhat tentative agreement.” The mayor said the council would discuss terms in closed session and “hopefully be able to bring a contract next month for approval in open session.”
Kathy Lowendorf moved to convene closed session and Mike Milke seconded. Clerks performed a roll call; members indicated affirmative votes and the council entered closed session at 7:42 p.m. The mayor paused briefly to allow the room to clear before proceeding into the closed session.
Because discussion occurred in closed session, the council did not disclose contract terms during the public meeting. The mayor stated that formal contract approval, if reached, would be brought back to open session for possible action.
