The City Council on June 12 unanimously approved a special permit for Woks and Wags Boston to operate a dog daycare at 9 Franklin Street, with no overnight boarding, and new conditions to ensure compliance with state kennel licensing requirements enacted as "Ollie's Law."
Petitioner Erin Lawler told the council her operation is Monday–Friday and serves up to 20 dogs per day; she said she listed broader hours on the application (7 a.m.–6 p.m.) because she arrives early and may occasionally have late pickups. Councilor McGinn noted the application exists because of a state law change and said the new permit will not alter the business model established under a 2023 special permit.
Councilor McGinn moved to approve the special permit with the conditions from special permit 2023‑19, amending Condition 11 to set business hours as 7 a.m.–6 p.m., Monday–Friday, and adding a condition requiring full compliance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 140, Section 137A ("Ollie's Law"). The motion carried 9–0 on roll call.
