District honors athletes, staff and names Andy Trumbull Teacher of the Year

At its meeting the Sweetwater County School District #2 board recognized student athletes, staff and volunteers and presented the district's Teacher of the Year award to Andy Trumbull.

Trumbull, who told the board he has been with the district for 34 years, was praised by his principal, Ralph O'Bray, and by trustees for his longtime service as a teacher and coach. Principal Ralph O'Bray described Trumbull's "unwavering dedication to education" and said Trumbull "has profoundly impacted not only his students but the entire district." Trumbull said the award was shared with colleagues and mentors and thanked central office staff including Craig Behringer, Jason Foose, and Mary Flom for their leadership.

The board also recognized All‑Conference and All‑State recipients across sports: boys soccer All‑State honors included Braxton Doak (second team) and honorable mentions Gavin Mears and Aiden Morris; girls soccer All‑State honorees included Brooklyn Phillips (second team) and Isa (Yvesa/Issa) Vasco (first team); softball and track athletes from the district were also acknowledged in lists read at the meeting.

The district's Food and Nutrition Services received a Healthy Meals Innovation award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Nutrition supervisor Leah Kennison told trustees the department is moving toward more scratch cooking, including plans to use Wyoming‑raised grain and beef; she said the district will test homemade pancakes to distribute to smaller kitchens and highlighted members of her team responsible for implementing the change.

Trustees and the superintendent congratulated honorees and thanked staff and community volunteers, including longtime volunteer and board member Steve Kaur, who received a Wyoming High School Activities Association lifetime gold pass in recognition of his decades of service to district athletics and broadcasting.
