Board approves not‑to‑exceed construction costs for warehouse remodel and IFA roadway

The Weber School District board approved two not‑to‑exceed construction amounts on June 10: $3,634,784 for a warehouse office remodel plus associated architectural fees, and up to $394,534.50 for a roadway serving the Weaver Innovation Center (IFA roadway).

Mr. Hadley, district facilities staff, told the board the warehouse remodel will consolidate facilities, child nutrition and custodial operations at the warehouse, freeing space in the 2 Rivers Building for other uses. He asked the board to approve a not‑to‑exceed GMP of $3,634,784 and associated Design West architectural fees of $266,429.66; a $77,794 fee for a transportation facility change order was included as a separate architectural fee estimate.

“We present to you tonight, the 2 not to exceed numbers so we can proceed with construction, starting in June,” Mr. Hadley said. Staff explained the GMP is an opening number that will go through a value‑engineering process and that the district will fund the work from a combination of previously allocated capital balances and maturing investments.

On the IFA roadway, Mr. Hadley said two bids had been received and construction cannot begin until the land purchase is complete. He told the board he expected the land purchase to finalize within weeks and described a 6–8 week construction window that would aim for completion before school starts. “We have conducted a job walk ... Before we awarded this contract, which we have not, but we're getting close to, I thought it was prudent that we sit down with them,” Mr. Hadley said. The board approved the not‑to‑exceed amounts by voice vote.

Board members were briefed on related logistics including temporary parking impacts at the Weaver Innovation Center and route‑tracking technology for buses that the remodeled space will accommodate.
