Oceanside school district honors retirees and accepts an associate principal's resignation

The Oceanside Union Free School District Board of Education used its June 11 meeting to recognize a group of retiring employees who together represent decades of service and to accept the resignation of Associate Principal Kevin Carbonetti.
Superintendent Dr. Harrington described the evening as "bittersweet," listing staff members from hourly employees and clerical staff to longtime teachers and union leaders and thanking them for their service. The board set aside a page in the meeting minutes to record retirees' accomplishments.
Names and years of service read aloud by administrators included hourly and clerical staff such as Joan Doyle (3 years), Jill D'Ambrosio (27), Janet Marks (20), Kim Peckham (11), Anne Marie Leon (15), Barbara Graham (15), and Mary Ellen Callan (15). Teachers and certificated staff recognized included Dominique Odie Martellucci (30 years), Susan Comerford (21), Karen Flynn (25), Melissa Soletti (18), Eileen Benson and Jennifer White (each 37), Evan Young (29), Beth Davis (33), Joseph Rizzola (27), Adrianna O'Brien (26), Frank Nappy (36), Robert Revedna (25), Cheryl Gary (18) and Robert Pittman (30) among others.
During the personnel portion of the meeting Board President D'Ambrosio announced the resignation of Associate Principal Kevin Carbonetti, who has served the district in guidance and as associate principal since 2020 and will accept a position in another district to be closer to home. "We know he's going to have an amazing future in education," D'Ambrosio said.
Dr. Harrington said Oceanside "is better because they were here" and asked for photos and applause as each retiree came forward. The board noted an aggregate figure stated during the meeting — 402 years of combined service represented by the retirees — and offered public thanks.
The board's acceptance of Carbonetti's resignation begins the process to fill the associate principal role; administrators said they are interviewing candidates and expect to present prospects to the board.
