Superintendent Mark Lohrey told the board on June 12 the Niagara Falls City School District is approximately 96–97% staffed for the upcoming school year. He said district offices and school leaders are continuing recruitment work through July 1 to reduce openings before classes begin.
District staff identified the remaining significant gaps as three world‑language positions, one speech‑language therapist, and one or two additional openings that may include special education or general education roles. Maria (district staff) told the board the district has hired three school psychologists and that the district’s plan is to reduce vacancies to three or fewer by July 1.
Lohrey said the staffing strategy prioritized filling positions and then reviewing probationary appointments, with a further personnel report planned for the July meeting. He described world languages as the area requiring the most recruitment work and asked board members for patience as the district completes hiring.
