Central Valley SD workshop lists personnel hires and athletics updates; parents offer boosters’ support for swim team

Parents Zach Economists and Jamie Economists told the Central Valley School Board on June 11 they want the district’s swim team to continue and said the swim-team boosters stand ready to help.
“We just wanted to say, if you're hearing some chatter out there about, you know, what's happening with the future of the swim team, we wanna help with the future of the swim team because we wanted to continue for the next decade or so,” said Zach Economists (resident), who spoke alongside his wife, Jamie Economists.
On the agenda under athletics, Mr. Ross presented personnel and activity items including the board’s consideration “to approve the resignation of Ethan Ott, middle school soccer coach, effective 05/29/2025,” and a request “to approve the boys varsity basketball team to attend a camp at Penn State Behrend, Erie, Pa., 06/13/2025 to 06/14/2025.” Ross said salaries for coaching positions would be attached the following week.
Under board-policy and personnel items, the packet listed a motion to appoint Joseph O'Neil as treasurer of the Central Valley School Board for a one-year term from 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2026, in accordance with Pennsylvania School Code sections 404 and 438, at a yearly stipend of $250. The personnel section also listed recommendations to approve permanent professional-employee contracts recognizing tenure for Taylor Braden, Gianna Palladini, Jean Ignatic, Drew Bowman, Brenda Steuer, Megan Knight, Emily King, April Morocco, Rachel George, Lisonbee Ide, Jessica Fosnott and Melissa Law.
The district also presented a personnel motion to approve Karina Pavlinch as a paraprofessional to provide extended-school-year services per student IEPs from 07/07/2025 through 07/17/2025 at a rate of $18 per hour, pending receipt and acceptance of required clearances. The agenda also listed multiple band supplemental positions, each pending required clearances.
A building-and-grounds item asked the board to confirm a building-usage request for Todd Lane gym, restrooms and playground for a before- and after-school latchkey program from 08/28/2025 through 05/29/2026.
