Board meeting spotlights student awards, yearbook teams and extracurricular successes

District leaders recognized multiple student accomplishments across science, music, athletics and the arts at the June 11 board meeting.
Board remarks listed winners from the recent Somers Science Fair and named students who placed in categories including engineering, medicine and health, animal sciences and behavioral science. The district also held its 23rd annual high school science symposium, where students presented research on topics ranging from wildfire detection to adolescent mental health.
The board noted Harrison High School’s spring musical production of Mary Poppins received Metro Awards recognition, including an award for outstanding choreography for teacher Deborah Tertitta and an award for a production number. The Harrison High School string ensemble earned a gold rating at the NISMA major ensemble festival at a level 5 difficulty program.
Athletic highlights included a boys golf sectional qualifier, a girls softball section final (a 7‑6 extra‑innings loss to Clarkstown South), multiple college commitment signings (including students headed to Emory, Earlham, Brandeis, MIT, Ithaca College, NYU, Penn State, Curry College and Keiser University), and lacrosse teams advancing to sectional rounds.
Students and advisors presented yearbooks at the meeting. Anthony Hsieh, LMK yearbook advisor, introduced seventh‑grade students Emma Conovo and Ella Aloni, who described LMK’s 2025 yearbook theme and thanked advisors. Matt Hardy, a junior and president of the Harrison High School Yearbook Club, presented the high school yearbook and described its board‑game theme and expanded club coverage.
Board members congratulated students and advisors and accepted yearbooks offered to the board.
