Board approves tenure for multiple staff, honors long‑serving retirees including Dino Puccio

The Harrison Central School District Board of Education approved tenure for staff and publicly recognized a large group of retirees during its June 11 regular business meeting.
After a motion to approve item 9 of the personnel report and a subsequent motion to approve the full personnel report, the board recorded the vote as "Aye" and declared the motions carried. The board read names of staff receiving tenure and asked them to identify their school assignments; those named included Kimberly Valencia (Harrison Avenue School), Sofia Conti (Harrison High School), Desiree Chappell (Parsons), Sophie Trapper (Parsons) and Erin O'Donnell (Preston), among others. Board members congratulated the staff. A district staff member advised new-tenure recipients that "tenure is not official until Sept. 1," and asked them to return to work then.
The meeting also featured an extended public recognition of retirees from across the district. The board named more than two dozen staff retiring after long careers in classroom and support roles — including teachers, aides, nurses, school psychologists and co-teachers — with service lengths cited in the meeting ranging from the low 20s to 30 years. The board paused intermittently for applause and individual recognition; several retirees were present and stood to be acknowledged.
Board members and administrators singled out board member Dino Puccio for special recognition as he steps down after nine years of service. Speakers described Puccio as a long-serving member who "sat on this board for nine years" and who participated in citizens budget and advisory work; the board said they would speak more about Puccio later in the meeting before returning to other business.
Procedural items on the personnel, administrative, finance and facilities reports were taken on consent and approved by voice vote; the board set its next regular business meeting for July 8, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. at Lewis M. Klein Middle School.
