The Harrison Education Foundation presented two checks totaling $9,250 to the Harrison Central School District during the June 11 board meeting, district and foundation representatives said.
Sean Rowett, a trustee of the Harrison Education Foundation, told the board the foundation approved a $2,500 grant requested by Matthew Royal at Harrison High School to purchase a live audio recording setup to expand the technical theater program. The foundation also approved a $6,750 grant requested by Veronica D'Andrea at the high school to buy 50 TI‑84 Plus CE calculators intended to provide equitable access in advanced mathematics courses.
Rowett said HEF raises funds through annual events and that applications come from teachers and administrators, who must explain need and implementation for districtwide adoption if approved. "Tonight, I'm very proud to offer two checks for two new grants that were just recently approved by the HEF board," Rowett said.
The foundation’s website, harrisoned.org, lists past grants including a student-led writing center, International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme teacher training, college tours, and equipment for the Harrison High School design technology program. Rowett said HEF’s grants are intended as a launching pad: successful projects can be added to annual district budgets and carried forward.
Board members accepted the gifts and paused for a photo with foundation representatives.
HEF said its annual fundraising event this year will be Oct. 23 at Harrison Meadows; donations may be made through harrisoned.org.
