Dr. Finney explained the district's accountability strategic waiver with the state Department of Education and said adding the Fair Dismissal Act waiver is allowable under state rules. He emphasized the change "doesn't mean that we're going to just get rid of any kind of due process and due diligence," but said the waiver would give the district additional flexibility in cases involving school needs or safety.
A motion to approve the strategic waiver revision was made, seconded and carried with the board voting "all in favor." The revision will be submitted to the Department of Education as part of the district’s strategic waiver documentation.
Board members did not debate specific individual cases at the meeting; Dr. Finney said the waiver is intended to provide flexibility in limited situations while maintaining fair procedures where appropriate.
