District administrators described plans for the Exeter Summer Skills Academy and Extended School Year (ESY) services for students with disabilities and targeted intervention needs.
Administrators said ESY begins for one population of students on June 24 and runs through Aug. 7, three days a week, from 8 a.m. to noon; another group of students will begin after July 4 and also attend three days a week. Staff said the district is offering targeted 45‑minute intervention slots; the district has about 95 targeted‑intervention slots available and roughly 70 students enrolled across the two elementary schools at the time of the meeting.
The summer program is run in a school‑model format and includes structured social‑emotional learning through the Brown Center. Administrators said students may spend intervention time and also have periods for unstructured play with Brown Center staff available. The district planned a Title I family night at school with a Kona Ice truck to let families meet summer staff and learn about the program.
Administrators also noted that the program uses school gardens and shared spaces and is intended to reduce regression over the summer for students who need ongoing support. Families will receive details, and staff will continue outreach as the program begins in late June.
