At the June 11 Orange Village Council meeting, resident James Boyle provided a public-comment update about the tax status of several church parcels and criticized the village's law director for an extended delay in responding to a legal matter tied to a public-records request.
Boyle said one parcel had been returned to the tax rolls, creating a taxable assessment of about $14,000 on that parcel. He said two other parcels remained pending with the state. Separately, Boyle described filing a public-records request and said he had expected the law director or village leadership to act earlier after a legal decision was issued; Boyle said he waited months without seeing any action and described that inaction as “an absolute failure.”
Boyle said he joined an email distribution list on Nov. 26 to monitor developments and that he saw no village action from November through April; he said he brought the matter to the council’s attention because he believed village officials should have been proactive in notifying impacted parties.
The mayor acknowledged the comment and the public-records topic appeared on the meeting record; council did not take an immediate action in response during the public-comment period. Boyle also identified himself in the record as being from 4231 Lander Road. No follow-up timetable or staff assignment to investigate was provided on the record.
