Orange Village Council on June 11 authorized Mayor Judson A. Klein to enter an agreement with NextEra Energy Services (through NOPEC) for electrical supply.
The village's current contract was due to expire July 2025. Village staff and the treasurer reviewed competitive bids and recommended a three‑year contract through NOPEC as the most favorable price for the village. A staff speaker said the selection provides budgetary certainty for electric utility costs over the next several years and was chosen after an apples‑to‑apples comparison of offers.
Councilmember Mr. Strickland introduced the item and deferred detailed remarks to Bob Zugan, who reviewed the procurement rationale. The council then moved to authorize the mayor to sign the agreement; a roll call recorded affirmative votes.
The council discussion did not include specific dollar amounts for the contract in the public record, nor did it identify contract start and end dates beyond the staff statement that the village’s prior contract expires in July 2025. The village noted that, if the contract process lapses, service would default to FirstEnergy until the new supplier takes effect.
