At its Sept. 18 meeting the Worcester Parks and Recreation Commission completed several procedural actions:
- The commission voted to accept the May 8, 2025 minutes. A subsequent motion to table the June 12, 2025 minutes also passed because a quorum for the June meeting was lacking.
- The commission voted to move forward with the request from District 2 City Councilor Candy Merrill Carlson to begin the naming process for the East Park playground in honor of Gary Vecchio; staff will post the proposal for neighborhood input and return to the commission at a future meeting for final approval or denial.
- The commission voted to file the Elm Park playground update after staff described the failed safety tests and the contractor-directed rework.
- The commission voted to file Commissioner Stratton’s report on the Community Preservation Act awards from the Community Preservation Committee.
- The commission voted to file Commissioner Turner’s Beaverbrook Park discussion and directed staff to synthesize proposed permitting-rule revisions, circulate them for league and public feedback, and return the issue to a future agenda.
All procedural motions were moved, seconded and recorded on the meeting transcript. Specific mover/second names were not consistently named in the transcript; roll-call affirmative votes were recorded for each filing and motion.
