City Council approves first round of CPA awards; open-space and recreation block received $1.8 million

Commissioner Stratton told the Parks and Recreation Commission that the Worcester City Council on July 15 unanimously approved the first round of Community Preservation Act (CPA) awards recommended by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). Stratton said the CPC recommended funding for 18 projects across three categories and that, for open space and recreation specifically, eight projects received a total of about $1,800,000.
Stratton said the largest open-space allocation in that category was for the Great Brook Valley Park Improvement Project (Roberto Clemente Field work referenced elsewhere in the meeting). She encouraged Parks Department staff to continue applying for CPA funding in the next funding cycle and noted the CPC’s fall funding cycle will open soon; she said the CPC will publish a CPA newsletter and that Parks should consider regular submissions.
The commission had no substantive questions and voted to file the report.
