The Worcester Historical Commission voted Sept. 18 to approve proposed exterior work at 55 Salisbury Street (Worcester Art Museum) that includes removal of 1970s window assemblies on the Tuckerman Street elevation, masonry infill designed to be compatible with existing brick, and replacement of non-street-visible storefront assemblies in the courtyard.
Seth Wiseman, the museum’s owner’s project manager, said the work focuses on a 1920s addition visible from Tuckerman Street and on courtyard storefront assemblies that are not visible from the primary street. He described plans to infill certain rough masonry openings with new units that consider color and aesthetic but will read as new work.
There were no public comments opposing the work. The commission approved the demolition‑delay waiver / certificate motion unanimously by roll call and noted the work has been under review with staff.
