Ed Carr, owner and resident at 85 William Street, described onsite inspection by contractor Dave Bernardi and said the chimney shows bulging bricks and damaged slates that could threaten a back deck. Carr said the roof/attic framing is structurally sound and the plan is to remove the chimney to the roofline and reconstruct it “the same look, the same presentation, same materials.”
Commissioners discussed brick matching and historic appearance; one commissioner noted modern brick sizes differ slightly from original units and asked the contractor to match as closely as possible. The commission determined the proposed rebuilding is in kind and “not under the jurisdiction of the commission” and therefore approved a certificate of non‑applicability.
A roll call vote approved the measure unanimously.
