Mapleton public works previews road work: crack seal, mill-and-fill and bids for 300 West

Rob, a city public-works speaker, said the leveling course was a preparatory step and that crack sealing should start within one to two weeks. "The mill and fill project should be coming in before the end of the month," he said, identifying areas off 1200 East, a section of 1600 North and a small street on the northwest side of town with many utility cuts. He said a micro-seal program is planned for July and that contractors may arrive after Pioneer Days if scheduling requires.
Staff also said the city will open bids tomorrow for a 300 West project and expects construction to begin soon thereafter. Work at the 800 West/Maple Street intersection and on 800 North requires coordination with the Utah Department of Transportation because those sections are state-owned roadways; staff said final reviews with UDOT are underway and that the city plans to put those projects out to bid once UDOT reviews are complete.
Public works staff described cooperation with neighboring Spanish Fork for specialized machinery to repair rough sections and potholes. "Our guys are working with Spanish Fork using their massive machine to fill in some of the test out, filling in some of our areas that are either rough or smaller potholes," Rob said.
Council members and staff also noted a broader pavement program and that the full cost to rebuild all storm drains and related work in the city would be substantially larger than the specific items planned this year. The reported short-term schedule includes crack sealing and micro-seal work in late June or July and bid-award work for 300 West in July.
