Staff reported the P‑17925 Flaton Creek bridge (STP bridge project) originally estimated at about $460,000 received bids near $495,000. Because the bids exceeded the state maintenance agreement estimate, the county approved a change-management request; the county’s share will be roughly 7% of the increased amount, estimated at about $37,000.
Why it matters: bridge replacements and large culvert work are capital projects with multi‑year impacts on structure safety and maintenance budgets; the county must absorb a portion of the cost overrun.
Brent said the Double B project included installation of two very large culverts (approximately 142 by 91 inches) and that crews will pulverize the roadway and repave when chip‑seal and other priorities allow. He told the committee he preferred to replace culverts now to maximize longevity rather than leaving older culverts in place and incurring unknown future costs.
Staff said the Flaton Creek replacement likely will start later in the fall; delaying would not necessarily reduce overall cost because inflation and supply conditions are uncertain.
