The Police Chief updated the Wolfeboro Police Commission on staffing and the department’s recent move into its new building, saying the department is under budget and “we hope to have the department full strength before the end of the year.”
The update matters because staffing and facilities directly affect patrol coverage, school safety and response times across Wolfeboro. Commissioners heard specific timelines for recruits and logistical progress on the new workspace.
The chief told commissioners that background investigations have been prioritized and that five candidates remain in the hiring queue, with four holding conditional offers and a fifth expected to follow. “Background investigations have taken priority over everything else,” the chief said. He repeated the department’s goal to reach full strength before year-end.
On facilities, the chief said the department completed a move into the new building “since yesterday,” and that contractors and the moving company CCI assisted with the relocation. “CCI has been amazing and very helpful,” he said, adding that staff have been busy moving equipment and setting up offices.
The chief also reported that Officers Greco and Weed are due to complete academy training on Aug. 22 and will join the department afterward. He noted the patrol staffing picture will change when they return and when the current hiring queue is filled.
Tom Bell, the budget committee representative to the police department, reported that budget deltas remain “within tolerable deltas” and that fuel usage appeared to be at about 25% of annual projection. The chief summarized the budget posture as “in good shape.”
Discussion only: commissioners asked no recorded formal follow-up motions tied to staffing beyond the report. Formal actions taken at the meeting were administrative: acceptance of prior minutes and a motion to adjourn (see actions).
The commission set its next meeting for Thursday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the Great Hall.
