The demonstration focused on why the group should give meaningful names to devices on the switch — for example “cam A,” “cam B” and a foyer display — so operators can identify sources quickly. "One of the things we're doing now that we've kind of got stuff in the right spot is we're gonna name the devices on the network," the staff member said.
The presenter explained that under the NDI workflow, devices send IP streams through a network switch instead of using fixed physical camera ports. "Now it's all IP. It's all IP goes through the switch," the staff member said, and described how that change expands operational flexibility.
The staff member walked through control options and a technical trade-off: performing image and audio corrections on the camera itself versus applying fixes inside vMix. "If you do it on the camera, the DSP, the digital signal processor on the camera, makes the corrections for you and then feeds that to vMix. If you do it on the vMix side, what's happening is it's just receiving whatever the camera is sending and then it's doing the fix out," the presenter said, adding a preference for camera-side correction when possible.
The trainer also noted that some displays or rooms had not yet been connected: the foyer screen and an office-room display were identified but not yet hooked into the system. The staff member said they had not yet labeled all the boxes that drive the TVs and that they were prioritizing the most-used outputs.
The session included a brief note about remote camera control: operators can adjust settings either through vMix or by logging into a camera's web interface to let the camera's DSP apply corrections before the stream reaches vMix. "You can actually go on the cameras directly and actually control them through a web interface," the presenter said.
No formal motions or votes were taken during the training. The immediate next steps described were operational: staff planned to assign descriptive network names to cameras and displays so operators can identify inputs more easily; no timeline was specified.
The training was procedural and operational in nature and did not include policy decisions or budget actions.
