Board approves private training school at 1111 John Overton Drive with lighting condition

The Montgomery City Planning Board approved a special-exception permit for a private training school to operate at 1111 John Overton Drive, with the board conditioning approval on adequate exterior lighting and no outdoor activities.
Jessica Rogers Waller, representing Luis Mosito, told the board the school would offer short vocational certification courses — including phlebotomy, pharmacy technician and certified nursing assistant programs — lasting six to 12 weeks. She said the programs are state-funded for eligible students who apply through the unemployment office and that the operation has been in business since 2017.
Board members asked about evening lighting for students leaving class. One board member noted the front of the building was “a little dark,” and the motion to approve specified adequate exterior lighting as a condition. The board also required that all activities be conducted inside the building.
A motion to approve with the lighting and indoor-use conditions passed. The board indicated staff will send an approval letter and the applicant may then pursue building and electrical permits, subject to the conditions the board recorded.
