Brett Shane, Moraine's parks and recreation director, introduced members of the West Carrollton High School baseball program and credited city crews with preparing Waxfield Park to host varsity games while the school district undergoes construction.
Mark Hill, head varsity baseball coach for West Carrollton, thanked city staff and the streets department for field work and practice accommodations. "We just really appreciate everything Brent has done, Chris and the street department has done," Hill said. He said the team appreciates having a local field for practices and games, and that the arrangement eased travel compared with prior seasons. Coach Hill also announced that a senior, Ben Morton, set the West Carroll High School record for stolen bases, reaching 97.
Why it matters: The arrangement gives the high school a nearby, playable home field while district facilities are rebuilt. City staff said crews from parks and streets worked through inclement weather to prepare the field.
No formal council action was required; council members thanked the team and city staff during the meeting.
