The Allegany County Legislature on a single agenda approved multiple staffing fills across county departments and accepted grant awards and donations to support local programs.
The Office for the Aging requested and received approval to fill four part-time Meals on Wheels driver positions. County staff said those positions are included in the 2025 budget and described the funding mix as 20% county, 38% state, 18% federal and 24% other contributions.
Public Health Director Tyler Shaw requested permission to fill one full-time early intervention service coordinator position and associated backfills for the Department of Health; the position was described as included in the 2025 budget and funded with approximately 12% county, 50% state and 38% other sources. The meeting transcript included an estimated salary figure that appears garbled and was not stated clearly; the salary detail was not specified in clear numeric form during the discussion.
Commissioner of Social Services Dan Horn requested and received approval to fill two support investigator positions, one full-time account clerk typist, one full-time caseworker and one social welfare examiner position, all with backfills. The support investigator positions were described with estimated annual salaries of $45,000 to $56,000; the account clerk typist at $36,000 to $42,000; the caseworker at $46,000 to $58,000; and the social welfare examiner at $40,000 to $48,000. Funding mixes were provided for several of the positions (for example, one position was listed as 35.57% county, 21.89% state and 42.54% federal). All of those positions were included in the 2025 budget, according to staff.
The legislature also approved resolutions to accept and appropriate several grant awards and donations. The Department of Social Services will distribute awards from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services for youth development ($50,494), youth team sports ($22,818) and a youth sports and education opportunity award ($20,000) that had previously been accepted under an earlier resolution. The legislature accepted a $2,000 donation from Saputo Incorporated restricted to a “Raven bridal house” public-education project and the purchase and distribution of radon test kits. The board approved donor contributions of $500 from the Zonta Club of Olean and $250 from the Olean Portville Lions Club to support the Child Advocacy Center, and accepted a $1,475 donation from the Allegany County Area Foundation to help a student with tuition for the employment training program.
Most personnel and appropriation motions were moved, seconded and carried on voice votes with little extended debate recorded in the meeting transcript.
