The Eatontown mayor and council on June 11 adopted a capital ordinance to fund rehabilitation of the Walking Place (Baltimore Lake) dam and associated drainage work, using federal funds rather than local taxpayer dollars.
Clerk Julie (municipal clerk) and borough counsel presented the ordinance’s title: a capital ordinance providing for rehabilitation of the dam and associated drainage features and appropriating $2,000,000. The mayor opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke on the ordinance and the council closed the public hearing.
Council moved the ordinance and the roll call vote was unanimous in favor. The clerk recorded votes of “yes” for each council member present. Borough counsel confirmed the appropriation represents federal funds allocated to the project and is not a local tax appropriation.
The ordinance funds engineering, repairs and related work to the dam and drainage system. Staff said the project will proceed under the federal funding terms and that further project details will be brought to council as design and procurement steps advance.
