Board gives unanimous straw poll to spend $75,000 to activate Smith’s Ballpark stadium

The Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency gave unanimous straw-poll approval to use $75,000 from the State Street strategic intervention fund to hire a professional event producer to activate Smith’s Ballpark Stadium from July through December 2025.
Danny Walls, CRA staff, said the request is to engage a professional services agreement using State Street funds rather than program income because year-end property-insurance and property-management expenses have tightened the program-income balance. Walls said even after the $75,000 request the strategic intervention fund would still have approximately $6,500,000 available.
Board members expressed support for activating the ballpark and asked staff to track measures of impact similar to prior activations such as Open Streets. Walls said the contract will include baseline deliverables for the event producer and staff will report back to the board on events activated under the agreement. Chair Mano called for a straw poll; the motion language presented—use $75,000 from the State Street Fund strategic intervention program to approve a professional services agreement to activate Smith’s Ballpark Stadium from July to December 2025—was recorded and the straw poll passed unanimously.
The action recorded was a straw poll, not a final contract award; staff said they will return with execution of the professional services agreement and report on activation outcomes.
