Council authorizes review of GIS field-mapping service to improve utility and code enforcement mapping

The Whiteland Town Council authorized staff to proceed with a proposal to license a field-focused GIS platform (vendor referenced in staff memo) and to execute an agreement subject to legal counsel review. Town staff said the service is user-friendly, supports many municipal workflows and can interoperate with ArcGIS, and that the annual cost would be $8,000 with a $2,000 setup fee.

Director of Administration said the town already maintains an ArcGIS account but lacks a user-friendly mobile interface for staff in the field; the proposed platform would allow unlimited user seats with role-based permissions and could be used by utilities, code enforcement and parks staff. "This will help us. Not only we can do work orders through it, but we can do code enforcement," the director said. New Whiteland (a neighboring jurisdiction) was cited as a positive reference.

Councilman Joe Sailor moved to authorize proceeding with the proposal subject to counsel review; the motion was approved 4-0 on roll call.
