The Yelm City Council on Tuesday adopted Resolution No. 657 declaring the property at 16658 Rainier View Drive SE abandoned and a public nuisance, allowing the financial institution that owns the foreclosed property to secure and abate it.
Chris (presenting staff member) told the council the property is mid‑foreclosure and vacant; the financial institution requested access to secure and abate the property. Staff said declaring the property a public nuisance is required to permit the bank to enter, secure and abate the site under the process contemplated by House Bill 2057.
Council member Richardson asked for and received confirmation from staff that the property is vacant and that the resolution is the procedural step required to allow the bank to secure the site. Councilor Crossman moved to approve Resolution No. 657; the motion carried by voice vote.
Staff did not propose special conditions beyond declaring the property a nuisance; no additional follow‑up direction or timeline was adopted during the meeting.
