The Mills City Council approved Ordinance No. 821, the final reading and appropriation of the City of Mills fiscal year 2026 budget, and noted plans to apply $14,000 in surplus funds to the enterprise fund, most likely for vehicle servicing. The council also accepted an offered free translator for the courts, which it said will save $1,000.
The council opened a public hearing and stated the budget hearing had been advertised and would be conducted in accordance with state statutes and Mills council procedures. No members of the public approached the lectern to speak for or against the budget during the hearing. The council then returned to regular session and moved to approve the ordinance "for a certain final rating with the divisions that Pat just mentioned," subject to alterations and corrections.
A council member summarized the budget notes: "the 14,000 that we have in the black and put it towards enterprise most likely, servicing vehicles. Then we have the offer for a free translator for courts. So we're gonna take up that offer, which is saving us a thousand dollars as well." That summary was recorded by the council for transparency and the council said the adopted budget would be posted online. The motion to approve the ordinance passed on council voice votes with affirmative votes recorded as "Aye" until the chair declared the motion passed.
The ordinance is identified in the meeting record as Ordinance No. 821 and was described as the city’s annual appropriation ordinance for fiscal year 2026. Council members noted the final ordinance remained subject to minor alterations and corrections before publication.
