Superintendent Eric Bracey honored as he prepares to leave for Cumberland County

Board and community members praised Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracey for five years of leadership as he prepares to depart Johnston County Public Schools on June 30, 2025.
The Johnston County Board of Education and community members on June 10 recognized Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracey’s five-year tenure, thanking him for improvements in academic performance, fiscal practices and partnerships with county leadership.
Board members presented Bracey with a plaque recognizing his service from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2025, and invited him and the board to a photograph. Bracey used his final superintendent’s report to recount the district’s trajectory since his arrival — including pandemic-era challenges — and to urge district leaders to “keep your foot on the gas” in focusing on students and academic excellence.
Board members and public commenters praised Bracey’s work and described improved relationships with county commissioners and use of federal ESSER funds to stabilize and advance district priorities. Bracey said he will begin his new role in Cumberland County on July 1 and asked the board to continue the district’s focus on student outcomes.
The board continued regular business after the tribute.
