Worcester seeks sites for up to 15 grant-funded EV chargers; city runs heat-pump webinar for landlords

WORCESTER, Mass. (July 28, 2025) — City sustainability staff reported progress on multiple energy initiatives, including site assessments for grant-funded electric vehicle charging and community outreach on heat-pump adoption.
Electric vehicle charging: John (DSR staff) said Worcester received a Mass Clean Energy Center grant enabling the city to install up to 15 EV charging ports at no cost to the city. Consultants are completing site visits and staff are prioritizing locations in neighborhoods with lower existing charging access. "We are consultants are doing site visits this week to determine the feasibility of those up to 15 new electric vehicle charging ports," John said. Final site decisions and a schedule will be released once assessments are complete.
Smart Energy Advice and heat-pump outreach: Jesse Davis reported the department's first webinar in a new Smart Energy Advice series drew more than 50 registrants and focused on heat pumps for landlords in partnership with Western Community Action Council and Green Energy Consumers Alliance. "We had over 50 people show up for our first webinar," Davis said, and staff plan another fall webinar and to post recording and slides online.
Other energy work: DSR staff said energy advocate office hours have slowed over the summer and will ramp up in the fall; staff are testing booking systems and planning targeted outreach to landlords and property owners.
