We have a band, live music, vendors, and the businesses are open doing specials for people to bring people to the Canal District when they're, Worcester Red Sox are not playing," said Georgiou of Pulse Magazine.
Georgiou also apologized to the commission and described a recent health emergency: "I want to apologize. Unfortunately, on Memorial Day weekend, I was brought to the hospital for emergency spinal surgery, and I've been in the hospital or rehab for since then," he said. He told commissioners the previous event drew a crowd and that the applicant will arrange a police detail for public safety.
A motion to approve the entertainment licenses was made and seconded. Commissioner Fisher and Chair Vigliati voted yes; no other votes or abstentions were recorded on the transcript. The commission granted the permits as requested.
The events are intended to support local businesses in the Canal District by encouraging pedestrians to visit vendors and nearby restaurants. Applicant-provided details to the commission included an attendance estimate from the prior year (transcript wording unclear) and confirmation that a police detail will be hired.
