Champaign Township approves intergovernmental rapid-rehousing agreement, rental-assistance budget and Stride Center repairs

Champaign Township on June 10 approved three measures aimed at responding to an acute local housing and homelessness situation: an intergovernmental agreement with Cunningham Township to use rapid-rehousing funds, a contract for building repairs at the Stride Center (formerly Scribe), and a rental-assistance budget for fiscal 2026.

The measures passed unanimously, 8-0. The board voted to approve Resolution 2025-0601, authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with Cunningham Township to deploy rapid-rehousing funds; to award a contract (Resolution 2025-0602) for flooring work at the Stride Center to Tiles in Style, doing business as Taza Construction; and to authorize an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Champaign to provide rental-assistance funds for the township's FY26 program (Resolution 2025-0603).

Cunningham Township Supervisor Danielle Chenoweth told the township board that conditions at Champaign Park Apartments have driven the emergency response. "We do consider this a human rights crisis," Chenoweth said, describing what she called "deplorable conditions" at the complex: trash,…
