The budget vote followed a public hearing that was opened and closed with no members of the public signed up to speak. Commissioners approved the budget and then voted on individual transfers tied to the county's operating needs for the year.
County staff presented the budget book and answered commissioners' questions during the meeting. No public comments were offered during the budget hearing. The board approved the annual general fund budget by voice vote after the hearing was closed.
Among the transfer actions, the board approved a transfer of up to $500,000 from general fund reserve into employee benefits (account codes referenced in the meeting): $300,000 as a one-time front-funding amount to allow advance purchase of certain prescription medications so they will be available to employees on July 1, and $200,000 as ongoing funds to provide a buffer against higher-than-anticipated claims. Finance staff explained the $300,000 front-funding was intended to keep prescription supplies available at the start of the new fiscal year and the ongoing $200,000 was a precaution should estimated claims rise.
The board also approved a transfer of $7,574 from reserve to cover potential unemployment expenses that would otherwise post in the next fiscal year; staff said the figure matches first-quarter claims estimates and that the amount may not ultimately be spent and would lapse back to reserve if unused. Separately, commissioners approved a transfer of salary and benefit funds into maintenance-and-operations to cover purchases for the upcoming county free fair, which staff said are for ordinary fair supplies such as ribbons.
The meeting began at 10 a.m. and notice was posted June 6, 2025. Commissioners thanked county staff and closed the item after votes. The agenda and discussion reflected routine annual budget housekeeping and short-term cash-management decisions intended to ensure services and benefits continue uninterrupted into the new fiscal year.
Less critical items at the meeting included congratulatory remarks about recent local election results and mention of the county assessor's preliminary abstract showing increased property valuation in the county.
