Siskiyou County LAFCO adopts final 2025–26 budget, increases travel line for CALAFCO

The Siskiyou County Local Agency Formation Commission voted unanimously to adopt its final fiscal year 2025–26 budget, approving a resolution to finalize spending after a single adjustment to the preliminary figures.

The final budget is the same as the preliminary plan except for an increased transportation and travel line, Executive Officer Haley Lane said, noting the change is to cover travel related to the California Association of Local Agency Formation Commissions (CALAFCO), including travel by the commission chair to CALAFCO meetings. "The only change from the preliminary budget to the final budget is we did increase the cost item under transportation and travel," Lane said. "That is due to Chair O'Brien being part of the CALAFCO group now." Lane said the increase also allows for the possibility that staff may attend certain meetings when agenda-driven.

Commissioners voted on the recommended motion to adopt the final budget (resolution as read at the meeting). The roll call recorded Commissioner Cook — aye; Commissioner Mazzoni — yes; Commissioner Baker — yes; Commissioner Valenzuela — yes; Chair O'Brien — aye. With that vote, the commission approved the fiscal year 2025–26 budget.

Commissioners asked staff whether the expanded travel allocation could include staff travel when appropriate; Lane said the line was increased enough to allow options for additional travel and that staff attendance would likely be agenda-driven. No other substantive changes were proposed during the hearing.

The commission opened the matter as the final step in the public hearing process after confirming there were no members of the public present to speak. The recommended motion and the resolution language were on the agenda packet. No amendments to the recommended budget were offered and no public testimony altered the proposal.
