RSU 5 certifies budget vote results, issues tax warrants for fiscal 2025–26
Summary

At its June 11 meeting at Freeport High School, the Regional School Unit 5 Board of Directors certified the results of the district budget vote and authorized the warrants that will prompt tax assessments to member municipalities for fiscal year 2025–26.
Board members reported that the annual budget question passed in yesterday’s vote, 817 to 494, and that Article 2 — the three‑year budget validation referendum question required by state law every three years — passed 951 to 346. The board then voted to enter those vote totals into the district record and to send certified copies to each municipal clerk in RSU 5.
The certification motion (computation and declaration of votes dated 06/11/2025) and a separate motion authorizing the treasurer’s warrant for assessment of tax and the assessment schedule and notice of installments for each member municipality for fiscal year 07/01/2025–06/30/2026 were approved by voice vote with no opposition. The motions authorize the treasurer to deliver the assessment warrants and payment schedules to the member towns in the form presented to the meeting.
Board members and the finance committee emphasized the administrative next steps: the treasurer will distribute the paperwork to municipal clerks and board members must sign the documents on the table to complete the certification process. The board’s finance committee will continue summer work related to warrants and payments.
The board chair thanked community members who participated in the budget process and urged municipal clerks and town officials to expect the certified documents from RSU 5.
Less critical procedural items at the close of the meeting included routine reminders about signing the printed materials on the table and a note that the finance committee will handle signatures over the summer to ensure timely processing of warrants and bill payment.
