Miami Beach outlines West Avenue Phase 2 construction, traffic and parking plans

City of Miami Beach staff and the project contractor on Tuesday briefed residents on West Avenue Phase 2, describing the project scope, segment phasing, a new pump station and traffic and parking mitigations that will be in place as work begins in June.

The project "encompasses an area between 14th Street North to the canal, and from Alton Road west to the bay," Ariel Gitian, the city's senior project manager, said during the virtual meeting. The city and Rickman Construction described underground drainage upgrades, an on‑site pump station already under construction and elevated roadway, sidewalks, protected bike lanes, new lighting and a baywalk at the end of Lincoln Road.

The briefing matters because the work will affect local access and parking for several years: the overall project was described as lasting roughly "3 to 3 and a half years," and the contractor estimated that segments 2 and 3 will take about 10 to 12 months to complete.
