Airport staff told the board that the runway has reopened and will remain open through Friday under a prior-permission-required (PPR) status; staff said PPR is likely to continue early next week for some flights. Painting and grooving work on the runway is planned in about five weeks, with the airport to be painted and grooved in July.
On facility work, county maintenance staff reported the terminal building and related windows will be replaced and that two furnaces and exterior painting are planned. The maintenance update said the county will use proceeds from selling pavement removed during the runway reconstruction to fund terminal painting, window replacement and the two furnaces.
Airport staff also confirmed the annual pancake feed at the airport is scheduled for July 6 and encouraged community attendance. Derek, airport staff, said the overall runway project “has gone really well” and that minor delays occurred when the plant had scheduling conflicts for reclaimed material processing.
Maintenance staff added that crews will install a mini-split HVAC unit in the Hayward ambulance sleeping quarters to address temperature regulation concerns.
No board action was taken; staff described the operational schedule and said they will continue coordinating the runway PPR status, the July grooving/painting, and terminal repairs.
