He named district and state placers including Tanner Binder (district champion in automotive, advanced to state), Tyson Turner (district placer), Peyton Pruitt (placed in pin design, a junior who may compete again), and welding students Austin Wert (regional champion, advancing to national competition at Ferris State University in Michigan), Conway Turner (district and state placer), and Jacob Drewer (state place in welding sculpture, advancing to nationals).
Spilker asked the board to acknowledge the students, and one student, Jacob Drewer, described his welding sculpture — a fully posable lighthouse that took about 169 hours and will be displayed. "It's definitely not something that people can usually say they've done," he said. The board applauded the students and thanked instructors for the program's role in preparing students for further education and careers.
No formal board action was required; the segment was used to publicly recognize students' competitive achievements and upcoming national participation.
